President's Day Weekend

President's day weekend was a much needed 3 day weekend.  But, it is also a scary thought because that means that this semester is about half way over and there's no more days off (eek!).  I guess, that just means it's time to get my nose to the grindstone.  But, anyways......... I got to do some fun stuff this weekend!

Friday

My ward had an open mic night, basically a talent show where you sign up at the door.  It was so much fun!  The acts were fantastic, we have so many talented people in our ward.  Some of my favorites include Michelle's "I need a man", Jayne and Emily's "Break your heart", and Joy's "Rolling in the Deep".  Everyone did a fantastic job!

Also, Becca, Ashley, and I did something as well.  We decided to sing some of our favorite pop songs as Disney/other characters would.  Here they are:

Violet from the Incredibles singing "Iris" by the Goo Goo Dolls:

My family pretends that we're normal
But my dad calls my mom rubber band
In a family of supers, what's normal?
I just don't think that you'd understand.

And I don't want the world to see me
Cause I'm hiding from big, scary men
My force field's not meant to be broken
I don't want you to know where I am.

Sleeping Beauty singing "Breakeven" by The Script

I'm still alive but I'm deeply sleeping
From a magic needle my finger's bleeding
Cos I got an enemy of my kingdom
Cos when a spindle breaks no it don't break even

What am I supposed to do when my one true love was always you and
What am I supposed to say when I can't even talk and you're away
I'm falling to sleep, yeah
I'm falling to sleep

Lord Voldemort singing "Forget You" by Cee-lo Green

I see you flying round town on your Nimbus 2000
And I'm like "Kill you!" Ooo ooo ooo
I guess the scar on your forehead just wasn't enough
And I'm like "I'll kill him, and I'll kill her too."
They say he's chosen, and I say whatever
Dumb prophecy.
And after all that's been said I still wish you dead
With a "Kill you"

Needless to say, we might have had a bit too much fun with that.

Saturday.

After work Saturday morning, Kensey, Ashley and I went up to Salt Lake to see Brittany in her goalball tournament.  Goalball is a sport designed for people who are blind or visually impaired.  It is really cool and if you ever get the chance to go see it, you should do it.  It's kind of like two teams of goalies chucking a ball at the opposing with bells in it while blindfolded. A better description can be found here, or watching it on youtube also really helps explain it well.  Either way, it was amazing!  Brittany did a fantastic job!  It was also really cool to experience blind culture as I had never really been exposed to it before. Later that night, we had our weekly Star Wars party.  It was a good day!

She's a beast!

Her team won the round we saw!

We had a fantastic time!

Sunday.

We started working on "Remember the Lilies" in choir and it was so beautiful!  It made my morning so much better.  Church was also fantastic and I left feeling so uplifted.  We celebrated Becca's half-birthday (more on that in a different post).  After ward prayer, Joel and his roommates invited me and my extended roommates over to their apartment and we played an awesome game I've never heard of it before.  It's called the game of things or things in a box.  Basically there's a category of things and everyone writes down an answer to it.  Ex. Things that would be weird to write on a résumé.  Then everyone writes their answer to that and you try to figure out who wrote what.  It's a super fun game and I definitely would recommend it.

Monday.

Monday was pretty relaxed.  Work was super slow because of the holiday, but otherwise good.  Other than that, I got some homework done, went on a lovely walk with Joel, and then my FHE group went to the bishop's for FHE.

I have to say, it was a lovely, rather busy long weekend!

  1. Your lyrics are hilarious. I do love a good parody. Also, I've seen that game in stores, but I've never actually played it. I'm glad you had fun!
